An anti-racism charity has urged Scottish football to lead the way in eradicating racism in future after a Hearts fan was caught on camera allegedly racially abusing Alfredo Morelos.

Morelos scored the equaliser for his side during yesterday's clash at Tynecastle and celebrated the goal in front of the home fans.

One supporter then allegedly launched a racist tirade at the hitman.

Hearts confirmed after the match that they were aware of and investigating the incident.

And now Show Racism the Red Card have blasted the supporter and hailed the Gorgie club for doing what they can to weed out the fan over "distressing" scenes.

"We are deeply distressed that again another horrible incident has taken place at the highest level of Scottish football," a spokesperson for the charity said.

"This abuse directed at Alfredo Morelos has been caught on live TV and circulated across social media seen by millions, yet these rising incidents of racism in football remain far outnumbered by those that do not make the headlines.

"Hearts have been made aware of the incident and are investigating it.

"The club are proactive in their efforts to eradicate inappropriate behaviour and we are confident this will continue following today's incident and that necessary action will be taken.

"While punishment is necessary, we are strongly urging Scottish Football to lead the way in supporting us and local schools to educate the future generation, promoting a culture of zero tolerance to racism and discrimination across our game."
