The latest news and gossip from around Scottish football.
Eagles in for Buffalo
Crystal Palace are set to offer £20million for Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos, according to a report.
The Colombian striker has been in outstanding form this season, scoring 15 goals in 20 games including an equaliser against Hearts last weekend.
Palace manager Roy Hodgson is a big fan of the 23-year-old and would be willing to shell out.
Aston Villa are also keen on Morelos but Palace director Dougie Freedman was in attendance at Tynecastle to watch him, according to the Scottish Sun.
Tav a wanted man
Former Rangers manager Mark Warburton has claimed that James Tavernier is a wanted man down south as several Premier League clubs have contacted him about the defender.
Warburton took Tavernier to Ibrox back in 2015 and knows all about his qualities.
And he has revealed the Gers skipper is the subject of interest from around England.
He told Daily Record: "I know for a fact there is a lot of interest in him down here.
"I hear people talk and I’ve had a lot of phone-calls from managers at other clubs who are asking me about him. I always give them my honest opinion.
"So a lot of Premier League clubs have been watching him because they know how good he is."
Deal CalMac in
Murdo MacLeod has urged Celtic to hand Callum McGregor a bumper new deal.
McGregor is under contract until 2023 after renegotiating terms a year ago but Neil Lennon has suggested he is worthy of a pay hike.
Former Hoops midfielder and assistant boss MacLeod says the Parkhead power-brokers need to get it done as McGregor closes in on his 250th appearance.
"The club need to give him good money in a good contract. That will give him a massive boost," MacLeod said.
"I will be delighted if someone of Callum’s calibre is going to be rewarded because he totally deserves it.
"The way football is now players are coming to Celtic for two or three years — sometimes less — then moving to England to make money.
"Callum has been so loyal to Celtic."
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
