Celtic-daft David Meyler admits he'd never coach Rangers after retiring, aged just 30.

The Irishman was forced to hang up his boots through a knee injury earlier this season.

He plans to go into coaching and potentially management and has recently signed a deal with a so far unnamed club to join as coaching staff.

One outfit his unconfirmed signing definitely won't be with is Rangers, though, having grown up a big Hoops fan.

And the ex-Hull City and Reading midfielder admits he couldn't ever bring himself to work at Ibrox - as his family wouldn't allow it.

Taking part in a fan Q&A, Meyler - who has 26 caps for ROI - was asked which club he would never want to work for.

He answered: "I would never coach Rangers, that's the truth.

"I'm a Celtic fan from Ireland so I don't think my family and friends would approve of it.

"Every Irish person I've found has always had this loyalty towards Celtic.

"Everybody likes Celtic and wants them to do well, especially when they're playing Rangers."

A young lad growing up in Cork, Meyler revealed how he actually supported two teams as a kid.

One was the Scottish champions and another was current Premier League leaders Liverpool.

And, rather ironically, his favourite player was the man who has gone on to become manager at Rangers.

"Liverpool and Celtic would be my two teams," he added.

"I grew up loving Liverpool, Steven Gerrard was my favourite player."
