Scottish Athletics have announced the athletes who have been awarded Scottish vests for the British Cross Challenge and Euro Trials, which will take place in Liverpool next Saturday.

22 athletes have been selected for Scottish vests, with performances over the past few months being taken into consideration.

The senior men who have been selected are Jamie Crowe (Central AC), Jonny Glen (Inverclyde AC), Ryan Thomson (Cambuslang Harriers) and Lachlan Oates (Shettleston Harriers) while the senior women are Mhairi Maclennan (Inverness Harriers), Steph Pennycook (Fife AC) and Jenny Selman (Fife AC).

Selman won the Scottish title at the Scottish Short-Course XC Championships last weekend and this event will mark her first cross-country appearance in a Scottish vest.

She has represented Scotland at 800m in the past, with the last of those coming at Loughborough in 2010 and she is, she admits, thrilled to be representing Scotland again.

“I’m delighted with the selection and looking forward to Liverpool,” the 28-year-old said.

“I just can’t believe first vest in many years has come over 8k and in cross country because that is 10 times my preferred distance of 800!

“For years I focussed on 800m but I’ve really struggled with Achilles injuries. After tearing it a few years ago, I found that the speed work required for the 800m was too much for my Achilles and decided to move up.

“I’ve been enjoying the longer winter training, especially the social side of XC races and longer runs!”

The senior athletes will be joined by the under-23 team of Sol Sweeney (Glasgow Uni), Jack Leitch (Edinburgh Uni Hare and Hounds), Connor Maclean (Kilbarchan AAC), Freddie Carcas(Edinburgh AC), Annabel Simpson (Fife AC), Holly Little (VP-Glasgow), Kerry Macangus (Kilbarchan AAC) and the under-20 team of Hamish Armitt (Giffnock North AC), Hamish Hickey (Central AC), Cameron Wright (Kilbarchan AAC), Kristof Hornyik (Dundee Hawkhill), Eloise Walker (Glasgow Uni), Megan Keith (Inverness Harriers), Cera Gemmell (Team East Lothian), Erin Wallace (Giffnock North).
