Ex-Everton coach Alan Irvine has been interviewed for the Hearts job, according to a report.

The former West Brom manager was recommended by star striker Steven Naismith after the pair spent time working together at Goodison Park.

They also worked alongside one another at Norwich City and the Daily Record are reporting the Scotland cap gave a glowing recommendation to the board about Irvine, 61.

It is understood Irvine is also in the running for the club's Sporting Director job.

Hearts have been on the lookout for a new manager since Craig Levein was relieved of his duties earlier this season.

They have since interviewed Neil McCann and Stuart McCall.
