SCOTT ARFIELD insists Rangers won’t allow their Hampden heartache to derail their Europa League ambitions after the agonising defeat to Celtic.

Steven Gerrard’s side dominated the Betfred Cup final against their Old Firm rivals but were left with nothing to show for their considerable efforts as Christopher Jullien netted the only goal of the game.

Rangers now have to turn their attentions to the visit of Young Boys on Thursday evening as they look to progress to the knockout rounds of the Europa League.

Arfield said: “It is gutting, of course it is, to have nothing to show for the dominance in that game. Everyone would have watched it and knows we deserved to win it but the fact is that we never and we need to move on as quickly as possible.

“You reflect for a couple of days. We don’t know any stats from the game but we know we did dominate it. Their keeper had so many saves throughout the game and obviously the penalty is the big turning factor.

“As I say, we move on as quickly as possible. We have got a huge schedule coming up and this can only be a bump in the road.

“I think everyone knows that we should have won it but at this football club you cannot overthink it. We lost the final, that is the fact, and we should have won it. We have got huge games coming up so if you are going to overthink it and leave the scars then you are going to be hurting for a long time.

“This game owes you nothing, as you saw today. You need to go and earn it. It wasn’t our day but we need to move on as quickly as possible.

“We have to look at it like that. But you would rather not play well and win the trophy. It is one of those things. We are hurting as much as any fan, as much as anyone associated with Rangers. We are hurting.

“The game owes you nothing. We are going to move on and make sure that Thursday is a better night for us.”
