BORNA BARISIC reckons Rangers have re-established themselves on the continental stage after reaching the Europa League knockout rounds.

Just two years after their embarrassing first round exit at the hands of Progres Niederkorn, the Light Blues will play in the last 32 of the competition this term.

Steven Gerrard’s side were on course for top spot in Group G thanks to Alfredo Morelos’ first half opener but a Barisic own goal denied them as Young Boys earned a point at Ibrox.

The main aim of qualification was achieved, though, and the Croatian was delighted to help Rangers into the next stage of the competition after coming so close 12 months ago.

Barisic said: “I am very happy of course because it is a big achievement for us, for the fans, for the club. I think we played very well in the group stages and it is a big achievement for us.

“I don’t have a preference who we play. Rangers didn’t qualify for the group stages for a lot of years so I think it is a big achievement, especially coming from Sunday’s game and the feelings after the cup final. We reacted very well and I am very happy.

“I think everyone enjoys it because it is different from our league and all the European teams play football much more than the teams in Scotland. We enjoy it and that is why we are so good in Europe.

“We have a very good team and I am happy that we have shown Europe that Rangers are back and that Rangers are strong again and we have a very good team.

“I was very happy and I think everyone is very happy. After Sunday, we had been a bit mentally down but we showed our mentality and that we are very good in the head. In the end, 1-1 is a good result and we go through in the group.”
