Boxing world champion Josh Taylor has split from his long-time promoters to sign a multi-year deal with a Las Vegas-based agency.

Cyclone Promotions, owned by Barry McGuigan, said they were “extremely disappointed” to see unified super lightweight champion Taylor depart for US promotion Top Rank.

It means Prestonpans-born Taylor, who captured the unified title with a majority decision win over Regis Prograis in October, will now have his fights exclusively broadcast by ESPN and split from trainer Shane McGuigan, who has been in Taylor’s corner since 2015.

The 28-year-old will now be represented by the same stable as WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford and Britain’s Tyson Fury.

Taylor burst onto the scene at the London Olympics and solidified his place as one of the sport’s most promising prospects by taking gold at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

A statement posted on Twitter expressed “frustration” at “those who have caused” Taylor to break from his exclusive worldwide deal with Cyclone.
