Ex-Celtic star Charlie Nicholas has launched an astonishing blast at Leigh Griffiths for his celebration after scoring against Partick Thistle at the weekend.

Griffiths stuck his fingers in his ears to drown out the noise of critics who claimed his time at Parkhead was over. An act that didn't sit well with Nicholas.

The former Hoops striker, 58, was left "doubting" Griffiths' mindset and claims he was worried by the message the frontman was sending to supporters.

Charlie Nicholas says Celtic star Odsonne Edouard irritates him - but he's still cut above Alfredo Morelos

In his Daily Express column, Nicholas moaned: "I might annoy a lot of people with these comments, but I really don't care. The celebration was wrong. It shouldn't be about Griffiths - it should be about scoring a goal for Celtic.

"Mind you, I also got it wrong once. I did it, ironically, when I scored a goal against Partick Thistle, second time around. I kicked the boards because I was angry and I knew our club was in a mess. I got it wrong and Leigh also got it wrong in the same way on Saturday night.

"Don't fight the world. He has to understand where he is, what his position is and who he plays for. When I saw his celebration at Firhill, it left me doubting if Leigh can be that man.

"Why did he put his fingers in his ears? It is not about a war or creating a so-called agenda. It is about getting himself right as a person - and if he does that, he can become the player he once was. His celebration really worried me and saddened me.

"I just think he should sort himself out and enjoy his goal."

Charlie Nicholas reignites war of words with Odsonne Edouard and says Celtic striker must 'show he cares'

Nicholas has previously been outspoken about current Celtic players and their celebrations. Or lack thereof, in one instance. The Sky Sports pundit criticised Odsonne Edouard for not celebrating enough after he nets - a jibe that irked the Frenchman into a response.

Nicholas at the time said: "The thing that irritates me more than anything is his lack of celebration when he scores. It should be the greatest feeling in the world but Odsonne doesn't show that."

But Edouard snapped back: "I celebrate my goals how I want..if you don't like it. That's not my problem."
