DEAN SHIELS is confident Steven Gerrard is the man to bring title glory back to Rangers and stop Celtic's run of Premiership triumphs.

The 39-year-old has seen his silverware ambitions suffer a series of blows in recent weeks as the Gers have fallen adrift at the top of the table.

Shiels was part of Mark Warburton's side that clinched the Championship crown to get Rangers back into the Premiership and the Northern Irishman is sure Gerrard can deliver that much coveted league flag.

Shiels told the fourladshadadream podcast: “I think he is brilliant. Obviously he hasn’t won anything yet, but I am sure that will come.

“I think he gets it. Some managers come into Rangers or some people come to the club and they don’t get it and they struggle.

“But I think he understands what the club are about and they are improving. Since Christmas it has dipped a bit, but if you look at the overall picture we are getting there closer.

“And I definitely think he is the man to push us on to get that next title. Will it be this year? I hope so. But, if not, I would expect them to do it next year.”
