CELTIC full-back Greg Taylor admit that his side shot themselves in the foot as they passed up a glorious chance to reach the last 16 of the Europa League.
The Scottish champions fell to a hugely disappointing 3-1 defeat to Copenhagen at Celtic Park after drawing in Denmark last week, and Taylor says the feeling within Neil Lennon's dressing room afterwards was that they only have themselves to blame after a lacklustre 90 minutes.
“I thought in the first half we had pretty good control of the game, we were creating chances and we were unfortunate not to be up at the break," Taylor said.
“The second half was an even tussle I felt, they came into it a wee bit and we obviously went a goal down.
“But we got ourselves back in the game and we should have kicked on from there, but we shot ourselves in the foot losing a goal so soon after equalising.
“I didn’t feel like there was even a minute between us equalising and them going back in front.
“That is the one thing that doesn’t sit well with us. We got ourselves back into the game and that should have been enough to get us through to extra-time at least.
“Of course, there is no doubt we will look back on this one with a lot of regret.
“It was a massive chance for us to get to the last 16, the incentive was there for us.
“We wanted to get through and we are all disappointed we haven’t been able to do that."
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
