STEVEN GERRARD is confident he and his Rangers squad will emerge stronger from the wretched run of form that has prematurely ended their silverware ambitions this season.
Defeats to Hearts and Hamilton in the Scottish Cup and Premiership have piled the pressure on Gerrard's side and the Europa League is their only remaining competitive competition heading into the final weeks of the campaign.
Rangers travel to Dingwall tomorrow in desperate need of a victory and Gerrard is relishing the challenge ahead.
Gerrard said: “I’ve got confidence and belief that we can get through this period and come out on the other side.
“That starts with Ross County. There is no point in me focusing too much on what has gone because I can’t change it.
“The only thing I can do is get these players re-motivated and energised for the challenge at Ross County.
“You know and I know that three points and a positive performance can start the recovery in terms of how you feel and where you want to get to.
“I think this is the first period of adversity. We’ve had some setbacks prior to this of course, bumps that we have spoken about. But this is probably the longest period of time where we have been a little bit low and results have been bad. I will get through this and I will improve and learn from this.
“I will be a better person and manager for this experience. There is part of me that is really excited by the challenge of getting better from it.
“It’s certainly not a struggle or a period that I want to shy away from or that I don’t want to face full on. That’s the way it is.”
Gerrard faces a difficult task to inject confidence into his under-fire squad after several costly stumbles in recent weeks. But he is sure his side can transform their fortunes.
Gerrard said: “It is a battle, for sure. We are on the back of some real low performances and results so, at the moment where we stand, it is an uphill battle. But, you know what? I like a battle, I am game for a battle and I know my players are.
“I think, big picture, when we get through it we will look back at this period and use it to our advantage and go ‘we have been there, we don’t want to go back there.’ We will work even harder to not go back there.
"It is a battle but I see it as a challenge. Would I prefer us to be in top form right now and everything flying and everyone happy? Of course.”
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
