DUNDEE are set to vote YES to the SPFL’s proposal to end the Scottish football season with standings being determined on a points per game basis, reports suggest.

The Daily Record claim the Dens Park club will make a dramatic U-turn after failing to register their vote on the league proposition before 5pm on Friday.

Scottish football descended into absolute chaos after the SPFL revealed it was waiting on a single vote from a second tier club that would determine whether their plan was accepted or rejected.

Inverness and Partick Thistle officials were astonished when they heard because they had seen a photograph of the completed “no” form that Dundee secretary Eric Drysdale had submitted on a WhatsApp group that afternoon.

It has since emerged the SPFL told Dundee they hadn’t received the slip, that managing director John Nelms had then asked Drysdale to hold off resubmitting it and then requested that if the original email did eventually arrive it should be disregarded.

And now in a shock change of heart reports suggested that Nelms will vote in favour of the proposal.

A source told the Daily Record: “John has been doing a lot of thinking over these last few days as there are parts of the proposal which he still finds difficult to accept because they are inherently unfair.

“But, at the same time, he also realises there is no easy or completely fair solution to the problems that Covid-19 has created. He is also aware that 85 per cent of the clubs have voted for these measures and some of them are in urgent need of the financial assistance which this plan would provide.

“The belief and the expectation now is that he will indeed register Dundee’s vote and that he will back the SPFL’s proposals even though he’s clearly struggling with various aspects.”

If the decision is made to go ahead with the plans then Dundee United, Raith Rovers and Cove Rangers would be crowned champions, while Partick Thistle and Stranraer would be relegated. There is also the possibility of the Premiership following suit with Celtic landing the title and Hearts dropping to the Championship.
