ANDY HALLIDAY has revealed that he didn't want Alfredo Morelos to take Rangers' penalty against Celtic in the League Cup final in December.
The Colombian striker saw his penalty saved by Fraser Forster as the Gers fell to an agonising cup final defeat against their bitter rivals.
Morelos was charged with the responsibility of taking the spot kick, but if it was down to Halliday he would have opted for skipper James Tavernier.
The former Ibrox midfielder believes the Colombian is a "poor finisher" despite being an "unbelievable goal scorer".
Asked if Morelos should have taken the penalty on Open Goal, Halliday said: "No, if I'm honest, no.
"See the thing is with Alfredo? I'd go as far to say he's a poor finisher, but he's an unbelievable goal scorer.
"He's one of those who you'd watch in game and training and he'd scaff everything into the bottom corner and you'd think that was ugly as anything, but it just goes in all the time!
"I think the biggest thing you need with penalties is composure which is why I felt Tav was a brilliant penalty taker for us.
"Although it got took off him because I think he missed two in a row, he took so many pressure penalties and scored them.
"I didn't want Alfredo to take that penalty, no.
"It's similar to the Scottish Cup semi-final when Patrick Roberts missed that chance.
"You do think, this is our day. Certain stuff's going for you, certain stuff's not.
"On that day, just nothing went for us.
"It's probably one of the most one sided Old Firm games I've played in in terms of Rangers' favour.
"Just nothing went for us. Fraser Forster was just unbelievable on the day.
"Nothing really went for Alfredo either. The majority of the chances fell to him.
"At the end of that game, that was one where the dressing room was real low.
"It felt like a chance missed in terms of throughout the game we felt we deserved to win it."
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
