Rangers' second-leg clash with Bayer Leverkusen will definitely be played behind closed doors, it can be confirmed.

The Ibrox outfit travel to Germany to square-off against Leverkusen following their 3-1 first-leg defeat in Glasgow back in March before the football shutdown.

There had been a small glimmer of hope that some fans, practicing social distancing, might be permitted inside BayArena to take in the match. However Herald Sport can now reveal that thought has been put to bed as the match will be played without spectators.

The Bundesliga has been being played without fans inside stadiums since its return on May 16. But with the international travel slowly but surely returning, people travelling between Scotland and Germany have been told they will not be forced to quarantine for 14 days as the Covid-19 outbreak continues to spread.

A spokesman for Bayer Leverkusen told Herald Sport: "There will be no spectators allowed, as presumed."

Kai Havertz, Charles Aranguiz and Leon Bailey all netted for Bayer in Glasgow in the first-leg while George Edmundson scored his team's consolation goal on the night.

Gers will meet either Inter Milan or Getafe if they can overturn the deficit against the Germans.

The news of no fans allowed comes as Celtic supporters have been told there will be a small number allowed inside the Parc de Princes for their friendly against PSG next week.
