Neil Lennon has provided an injury update on Celtic winger Mikey Johnston.
The talented Hoops ace has been plagued by injuries and recently went under the knife in a bid to correct any more issues. He has suffered a knee problem and injuries to his calves in recent times.
Unlucky Johnston endured his latest setback in January when he suspected knee ligament damage against St Johnstone. He has been out of action since. However, manager Lennon has today confirmed the player has had his surgery - and he put a roughly estimated time frame when Celtic supporters can expect to see the playmaker back.
He said: "Mikey Johnston has had his surgery so we're looking at a time frame of maybe three to five weeks."
We told, in an exclusive interview with former defender Marvin Compper, that Johnston is one of the club's top players. The German centre-half said: "Mikey can go far, " he told Herald and Times Sport. "He has this natural instinct, he is the kind of player that, in the Scottish league, you might not even see 60 percent of what he's capable of. He is a player who can make a difference, can win a game for a team just like that. I don't want to put too much pressure on him but he could potentially be that player who plays for big teams and makes the difference for these teams.
"He's already shown that for Celtic. He's very capable. Players I've spoken to have said he's so hard to defend against and I think that's the biggest compliment an offensive player can get. He has a lot of potential but he needs to stay humble and work hard."
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
