DUNDEE UNITED striker Lawrence Shankland has caught the eye of French outfit Guingamp, according to reports.

The Tangerines' talismanic forward swapped Somerset Park for Tannadice last summer, scoring 24 goals in 26 league games as Robbie Neilson's side strolled to the Championship title.

That eye-catching form led to a call-up from Steve Clarke, with the 25-year-old making his first appearance for the national team in a 4-0 defeat away to Russia before marking his Hampden debut with a goal against San Marino three days later.

The former Queens Park and Ayr United striker featured in his side's Premiership opener against St Johnstone at the start of the month but has not played since after picking up a knock.

The prolific striker has been the subject of much transfer speculation over the summer, with Ligue 2's Guingamp the latest club to be linked with a move for the Scotland internationalist.

The Scottish Sun are reporting that the French club are considering a move for Shankland - just weeks after seeing a move for Aberdeen's Sam Cosgrove fall through.

The Dons accepted an offer in excess of £2 million for their top scorer last season, but the 23-year-old coud not be persuaded to leave Pittodrie.

However, Shankland - whose contract runs until 2022 - has previously insisted that he has no plans to leave United this summer, with manager Micky Mellon adamant that he will not sell his star striker.

Speaking after landing the job at Tannadice, Mellon said: “Nothing will happen here that doesn’t make Dundee United better, I can assure you of that.

"The owner won’t allow that to happen, [sporting director] Tony Asghar won’t allow that to happen and I certainly won’t. You don’t build a good team by getting rid of your best players.”
