THE Scottish Government has rejected Celtic's proposal to make Sunday's match with Motherwell a fan test event.

The Parkhead outfit had plans in place to welcome around 1,000 supporters back into their stadium this weekend, but government chiefs have raised concerns.

Sports minister Joe Fitzpatrick and the SPFL were due to meet today to discuss plans to reintroduce supporters into stadiums across Scotland, but it is understood the meeting was cancelled.

Meanwhile, rugby fans will be allowed back into Murrayfield this weekend, albeit in small numbers.

Glasgow Warriors are set to take on Edinburgh in the second leg of their Pro 14 match and the government has given the green light for a small portion of supporters to be permitted into the stadium.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has previously said that she hopes to welcome football supporters back into stadiums from September 14.
