Lincoln Red Imps legend Lee Casciaro admits he is dreaming of securing a historic European Old Firm double after being drawn with Rangers.

The striker scored the only goal when the Gibraltarian minnows put Celtic - who had Brendan Rodgers making his dugout debut - to the sword in a Champions League qualifier at the Victoria stadium over four years ago.

Casciaro also notched Gibraltar’s first ever competitive goal in a 6-1 Euro qualifying defeat to Scotland at Hampden in 2015.

Now the policeman would love to take Rangers’ scalp on September 17 in the British Overseas Territory after the two sides were paired together for the second qualifying round clash.

However, the 38-year-old concedes beating Rangers is an even bigger challenge than stunning the Bhoys.

Casciaro said: “Who would have thought that after playing Celtic that we would get Rangers? It’s a bonus for us to be able to compete against them.

“If I was a betting man I would not bet on Lincoln, but in football who knows?

“At the end of the day we shouldn’t be able to get a result

“It’s a good game to go and express ourselves but realistically Rangers should get past us comfortably, especially since the Scottish league has already started.

“I think when Celtic came over they had only had one pre-season game, maybe less.

“It’s going to be harder for us to compete.

“But it could be a very warm day, the pitch could be dry, maybe if you get some luck you get a goal or take it penalties.

“If we get a chance we have to take it. It’s very difficult but we will try our best anyway.

“It’s really good for the club and us to play a historic club like Rangers.”

Celtic went on to win the second leg 3-0 in 2016 to progress and Casciaro admits he is gutted the restrictions over Covid have denied him the chance to play at Ibrox.

He added: “Unfortunately it is only one leg, that is the worst thing about it.

“When we played at Celtic Park it was probably one of the best experiences of my career so it would have been nice to have gone back to Scotland but it is what it is with Covid.”

"Reminded of his goal scoring exploits against the Scots, Cascario, whose brother Kyle also plays for Lincoln, added: “It’s just being in the right place at the right time.

“Luckily for me I scored in both of those games. But it’s going to be an enjoyable game.

“We have a good squad and have made some good signings who are based in Gibraltar.

“We are mostly like brothers more anything else because we have played together for 25 years.”
