STEPHEN Robinson has revealed that Motherwell have made a contract offer to Scotland Under-21 midfielder Allan Campbell.
Campbell’s current deal expires at the end of the 2020/21 campaign and Robinson is hopeful the player, who has been in outstanding form, agrees to extend his stay at Fir Park.
“He’s out of contract at the end of the season and people at the club deal with players who are out of contract, not just Allan,” he said.
“We’ve spoken to them and people have been made offers. It’s up to them whether the sign or not. We can’t throw a massive amount of money at it, we have a structure we work under.
“Everyone has their own decisions to make, but anyone who is out of contract and we want to keep have been approached and offers made and it’s other people’s decisions if that happens or not.”
Robinson added: “Offers have been made to players and their agents. We can’t force people to sign contracts. That’s up to them. There is no time limit on the players at this moment in time.
“If people sign on the last day of the season I’d be delighted. There is no timeframe, everyone’s got their decisions to make and their right to do that, as they’ve earned the right to consider their options so there’s no pressure from me.
“I’m just concentrating solely on when Allan Campbell and others are here. I’ll get absolutely everything out of them and they’ll give me nothing but 110 per cent every game.”
Robinson is confident the 22-year-old will be one of Motherwell’s key men in their Europa League qualifier against Hapoel Be’er Sheva in Israel tomorrow night.
“Big players play in big games and it won’t faze the wee man in any shape or form,” he said. “He’s matched any challenge thrown in front of him.
“He’s brushed aside any player brought in to challenge him and any player he’s up against on a Saturday he plays with no fear so this will be no different.”
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
