JORDAN JONES insists he is ‘100 per cent’ committed to Rangers as he looks to transform his Ibrox career and become a mainstay of Steven Gerrard’s squad.
The winger made the most of his first Premiership start in a year on Sunday as he scored the second goal in the 5-1 win over Motherwell and produced an impressive attacking showing.
Jones has struggled to establish himself following the move from Kilmarnock last season and has been linked with a handful of Championship clubs in recent weeks amid doubts over his long-term future with his boyhood heroes.
But the 25-year-old is determined to prove his worth to boss Gerrard after coming in from the cold against Willem II and Motherwell and making a positive impression for Rangers.
Jones said: “I think, like a lot of our players, there are a lot of links with clubs, there is a lot of stuff written about us, and you have to try and let it go over your head.
“I know sometimes it is difficult when you are not involved and it is hard to ignore all the noise. Like I say, you have to do. I don’t think you can get too carried away.
“You see the likes of Alfredo, he gets linked with a different club every day. But you just have to get on with your job.
“Rangers is the club we play for, Rangers is 100 per cent the club that I want to play for. I got my chance today and on Thursday night and I feel like I have done myself justice.
“It is obvious to everyone where I want to be, it is obvious I want to be here and get a run of games. You can’t sit around moping when the team performs as it does.
“You just have to keep yourself ready and when you do get the chance you have to take it because you don’t know how long it will be until you get the next one.
“Having said that, I definitely won’t be getting carried away and I know how quickly things can change in football.
“This time last week I was at Hibs and didn’t get on and a week later you are starting the game. Things can change all the time so you have to be mentally strong and be ready for it.”
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
