James Forrest will miss this month’s derby against Rangers with an ankle injury.

The Celtic winger faces six weeks out of action after hobbling off against Riga in the Hoops’ 1-0 win in Europa League action.

It is likely the player will be out until November, with October 17 against the Light Blues at Parkhead coming too soon.

Forrest’s injury coincides, perhaps fortuitously for his club, with Jeremie Frimpong’s rich recent vein of form in Neil Lennon’s favoured 3-5-2 formation.

While Forrest - who will also miss Scotland’s Nations League match with Israel - will be out, one player who could feature is Diego Laxalt who completed his loan deal from AC Milan yesterday.
