ST MIRREN manager Jim Goodwin has acknowledged his “neck is on the block” after a run of six consecutive defeats.

Goodwin revealed he had held “honest and frank conversations” with the club’s board of directors in recent days about the abject run of form but is determined to try to turn around the situation.

The Paisley side face League One Partick Thistle at home tomorrow evening in their opening match of the Betfred Cup group stage.

Goodwin said: “I know this run can’t continue. I’ve had honest and frank conversations with the board in the last week or so about it. We’re all aware that this form has to change quickly.

“There isn't a crisis, there's no fall-out behind the scenes. But the fact of the matter is the results need to change. I'm responsible for this and ultimately it's the guy at the top whose neck is on the block. I've got to turn it around and I know I have to do that.

“I love the job I’m in and I’m not going to let it go away without a fight. I want to stay here for a long, long time and I know that can only happen if results change on the park.

“As a manager there’s no point trying to point the finger at anyone else. I have to take responsibility for the situation that we’re in.”

Goodwin could hand a debut to Daniel Finlayson this evening after the defender’s move on loan from Rangers on deadline day.

Another new recruit, Brandon Mason, is injured but Goodwin dismissed the prospect – originally raised by the player’s parent club, Coventry City – that the left-back could be out for eight weeks.

“We’re expecting Brandon to be fully fit in a week to 10 days,” added the Irishman.
