HIBERNIAN defender Paul Hanlon will join up with his club team-mates Paul McGinn and Ryan Porteous in the Scotland set-up after being called up by Steve Clarke.

The 30-year-old will join up with the international side ahead of the Nations League fixture against the Czech Republic on Wednesday night at Hampden, replacing Leeds United defender Liam Cooper.

Hanlon has only previously been involved in one Scotland squad, when the national side faced the Netherlands in a friendly back in 2017, and is yet to make his international debut.

But with Cooper injured, Andy Robertson suspended and Kieran Tierney in self-isolation, Clarke's squad is short of bodies at the back and Hanlon could make his first appearance in dark blue against the Czechs - only a few days after Aberdeen's Andrew Considine's domestic form was rewarded with a debut Scotland cap.

Speaking to the Hibs website, head coach Jack Ross said he was pleased to see Hanlon's recent displays earn international recognition, hailing the defender's professionalism.

Ross said: "I’m delighted for Paul. It’s thoroughly deserved after the strong start to the season he’s had.

“Paul is a manager’s dream to work with. He’s a model professional and a consistent performer.

“I know how much this means to him and it reflects well on the club to have the two Pauls and Ryan involved.

“I’ve no doubt all three will give good accounts of themselves.”
