ST JOHNSTONE boss Callum Davidson has revealed that confidence is brewing amongst his strikers after his side notched SEVEN past Brechin City in the Betfred Cup.
Saints had been in somewhat of a goal drought prior to the international break, but in a switch of form the Perth outfit have grabbed nine goals in their past two League Cup games.
Davidson is the first to admit that the goals came against lesser opposition in Brechin and Kelty Hearts, but he does believe both victories could prove vital when his team return to Scottish Premiership duties.
“You want your strikers full of confidence and scoring so the Betfred Cup has been great for that,” he told Herald and Times Sport.
“Hopefully they realise that they’re doing the right things and getting the right positions. I believe the goals will keep coming. The cup has been good for us.
“Winning anything makes you feel better. That could be at marbles or cards. It’s certainly the case with football. These two wins have come at a good time for us.
“Strikers beat themselves up if they’re not scoring but they are valuable assets when they’re doing other things.
“I’d have been concerned if they were shying away from getting in the box but that hasn’t been the case.”
One man who missed the Betfred Cup action was winger Michael O’Halloran. The former Rangers attacker was rested as he looked to recover from a long-term ankle issue - but Davidson hopes to welcome him back this weekend.
He added: “He trained today and came through the session fine. Mikey should be good to go.
“He had one of those ankle problems that you play through. It was causing him a bit of bother so we’ve taken the opportunity to settle it down a bit over the last 10 days.”
