Emilio Izaguirre had his fair share of ding dongs with Rangers during his time as a Celtic player.
The Honduran recalls the physical side to the Old Firm clashes and will always sport bumps and bruises from the battles he fought in at Parkhead and Ibrox on derby day. The popular left-back knows that the biggest game in Scotland is no place for shrinking violets.
On the left-hand side of what is likely to be a 3-5-2 formation tomorrow, Neil Lennon has the task of choosing between Greg Taylor and new signing from AC Milan Diego Laxalt. Two players who offer different attributes for their manager. Both provide good width for their side and defensive solidity. They can both also get forward when necessary, which will undoubtedly be vital for the Hoops this weekend if they are to seal all three points against their rivals.
But while both are viable options for Lennon, former defender Izaguirre believes Laxalt is the better choice to make his debut because he offers a physical side that Taylor may lack. The loanee also boasts an impressive CV in big games including the Milan derby. "I played against Greg Taylor when he was at Kilmarnock and he's a good player," Izaguirre told Herald and Times Sport.
"Technically he's good one-on-one. The game against Rangers is very physical and he's maybe not the strongest player. And they have signed a good player in Diego.
"He played for Milan and Uruguay, he's a team player with a different style. In South America Uruguay play a bit like teams in Scotland, they like strong players. It's difficult to compare the two.
"Greg Taylor has already come up against players like Kent but I think Diego might play because it's a big game and he's used to them. He has played in World Cups, big games in South America and Italy. I think, for me, it will be Diego."
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
