ALAN HUTTON believes Steven Gerrard's 'tactical genius' and an 'outstanding' performance from Glen Kamara were key to Rangers' Old Firm win on Saturday.
The Gers moved four points clear at the top of the Premiership as Connor Goldson netted in either half to clinch a comfortable derby victory.
On a day where there were plenty of positives for Gerrard, the performance of midfielder Kamara was one of the main ones as he produced a superb showing against Celtic.
And former Ibrox star Hutton reckons the Finnish international was integral to the way the game unfolded as full-back Jeremie Frimpong was isolated out of the encounter.
Hutton told Football Insider: “Absolutely outstanding. This is a guy who’s kind of flew under the radar for a little while and I think his recent performances at international level and then bringing that into the Rangers team, he was actually pivotal to what Rangers were doing.
“He was stopping the flying wing-backs of Celtic going forward. He nullified Frimpong, he hardly touched the ball and it was all to do with Kamara spotting the danger, he could see what was happening, what was building up and he’s got the energy to get all over the pitch.
“He was the one that would go out and stop Frimpong attacking. He did his job absolutely unbelievable – Frimpong is the danger man for them and he did basically nothing in the game.
“It was really a bit of tactical genius from Gerrard to use Kamara’s energy up and down the pitch to stop one of their main threats on the day.”
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
