IF Zlatan Ibrahimovic has his way, which he often does, then he will be the talk of Glasgow this evening. That's the way the superstar Swede likes it.
The 39-year-old has certainly made his mark on Celtic new-boy Diego Laxalt, who teamed up with Ibrahimovic before making the loan move to Scotland.
Laxalt will be hoping to keep the forward quiet for once this evening though, even though he himself has plenty to say about the quality of the AC Milan striker.
"He is exactly in real life as you see him," Laxalt said. "He has a fantastic personality and he is a class player as well. He has had a long career and someone like Zlatan I could talk all night about him.
"These are the sort of things you keep inside the dressing room [though]. But you would treat him like any other players because we have to defend well. But it’s something I will discuss with my teammates."
Laxalt has had quite the baptism of fire as a Celtic player, making his debut in Saturday’s loss to Rangers, before gearing up to take on his parent club in just his second appearance for the Scottish champions.
The 27-year-old is taking it all in his stride though, and says that it won’t be an issue for him to help put his employers to the sword tonight at Celtic Park.
“Will it be awkward? I try not to think about it and I have just prepared for it like it’s any other game,” he said.
“It’s not something I will be thinking about during the game anyway. It might seem a bit weird afterwards having played against my old team but I am at Celtic and will be treating them like a normal game.
“Milan have got a great squad who work well together – but the manager doesn’t need me to tell him that. There is a really good staff here at Celtic with the manager and the coaches, and they know what they are doing.
“They will have us ready for the game.”
Laxalt was one of the few bright spots from the dismal Celtic performance against Rangers on Saturday, and he says there is more to come from him this evening.
“I am feeling good,” he said. “It was my first game and I was happy to get the minutes in.
“Physically I feel better and I’m looking forward to the game against Milan. Obviously there was huge disappointment after the game, but this is a new opportunity for us.
“I was happy with my performance but not with the result. I’m really enthusiastic to help the team and I’m really positive and looking forward to facing AC Milan. There are a lot of games to come and I can’t wait to give my all to help the clubs in the games coming up.
“Everyone is focused. After Saturday this is a great opportunity for us to put in a good performance. “We are sticking together as a group, there is a great team spirit here and want to show that against Milan.”
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
