KILMARNOCK'S decision to postpone their Premiership fixture with Motherwell earlier this month has been met with disciplinary action from the SPFL, the governing body have announced.

An outbreak of Covid-19 at Rugby Park meant that Alex Dyer was unable to name a matchday squad to face Motherwell, which was due to take place on Friday 2 October.

The SPFL subsequently launched an investigation into the matter and believe that Killie breached coronavirus regulations in the lead up to the match, and have now brought disciplinary proceedings against the Ayrshire club.

A sub-committee of the SPFL board will discuss the allegations at a hearing led by an independent chair, with no date currently set.

If Kilmarnock are found to have breached the SPFL's Covid regulations, it is possible that they could be punished with a fine or a 3-0 walkover victory could be awarded to Motherwell without the match being played.

A statement released by the SPFL read: "The SPFL has today announced that disciplinary proceedings have been commenced against Kilmarnock FC.

"It is alleged that Kilmarnock FC breached the SPFL’s Covid-19 Regulations during the lead-up to their postponed League Match v Motherwell FC on Friday, 2 October.

"A hearing will be held before a Sub-Committee of the Board of the SPFL, chaired by an independent legally-qualified chair.

"The date of the hearing will be announced in due course."
