Kemar Roofe's wonder-goal against Standard Liege will be talked about for years to come.
But the Europa League record he set with his strike from inside his own half was beaten inside the space of just a week by Jordi Gomez for Omonia Nicosia.
Roofe notched a once-in-a-lifetime finish after dazzling three defenders and leathering the ball 54.6 yards into the net during his side's impressive 2-0 win in Belgium. In Nicosia's narrow 2-1 defeat at home to PSV yesterday evening, former Wigan attacker Gomez struck a fabulous free-kick from even further to claim the title.

Gers fans, however, were not willing to allow their player to be upstaged and were furious to see that the ball appeared to still be moving ever so slightly when Gomez shot. And though the goal stood, plenty Light Blues were undeterred in claiming Roofe still should still hold the record.
One said: "Did it count? Looked like ref blew for a foul, ball was still rolling when he hit it. No holding off players or doing the front crawl. Not a patch on Roofes". Another added: "Surely a moving ball?!" One wrote: "Moving ball there. Took the free kick 5 yards away from where the foul was committed as well."Â
A fourth commented: "Don't want to seem nitpicky as this kind of vision deserves rewarded but am surprised this was allowed to stand. The ball was moving when Gomez struck it and it wasn't in the right place either."
Others simply insisted Roofe's was still better and that he should be crowned Puskas Award winner. One said: "Absolutely not the same thing, Roofe shot from a swimming pool," and one more added: "Unreal goal but it is not better than Roofes. A dead ball and better conditions."
