STEVEN GERRARD is confident Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos is in a 'good place' ahead of the Europa League clash with Benfica at Ibrox.
Morelos cut a frustrated figure when he was substituted during the 4-0 Premiership win over Aberdeen at the weekend.
Boss Gerrard laughed off the incident post-match as his side warmed up for their Group D showdown with another impressive victory.
Morelos is set to start against the Portuguese giants tomorrow night and Gerrard is sure he is ready to perform once again for Rangers.
Gerrard said: "Alfredo is fine. We don’t want the players to be smiling and happy when they are taken off the pitch.
"But at the same time we need them to understand that it is a big season, there are a lot of games, and you have to be respectful to the player that is coming on to replace you.
"We don’t expect the players to be happy when they are leaving the pitch. Alfredo is fine, he is in a good place.
"He was on the back of a long trip home from international duty and he started the game, played well and we got a positive result.
"He is ready to go again. It is my job to spin the plates and manage the players and use them when I see it is right, and remove them when I see it is right.
"It is what it is and I don’t think there is a big issue to be made from this at all."
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
