GARY MCALLISTER saw Kemar Roofe become a firm favourite of the Elland Road crowd and knew he would be an Ibrox attraction.
The former Leeds striker continued the impressive start to his Rangers career on Thursday night with a stunning goal in the 2-2 draw with Benfica.
It has taken time for Roofe to get fully up to speed this term following a couple of injury niggles but the 27-year-old is now showing why Rangers were so keen to sign him from Anderlecht in the summer.
McAllister said: “I’d seen quite a bit of Kemar when he was at Leeds United and I was still living in Leeds. He’s a player who had the love of the fans at Elland Road with his goals but also by his work-rate.
“That endears you to most sets of fans but the fact he came here and wasn’t quite fit took him time to settle and that was purely down to the fact he hadn’t played many minutes.
“There were also previous injuries at Anderlecht but Kemar is someone when fully fit, confident and looking hungry [that is] a real goal threat. All of a sudden he gives us something that wee bit different to what we’ve had in the past.
“He takes the pressure away from our mainline strikers to get goals as he’s looking a goal threat.”
