STEVEN GERRARD hailed goal hero Scott Arfield as he fired Rangers into the Europa League knockout rounds at Ibrox.
Rangers were twice behind against Standard Liege but found a way to win as Connor Goldson, James Tavernier and Arfield netted to clinch qualification from Group D.
Arfield continued his fine form this term with his seventh goal of the campaign as he finished off a neat attacking move that saw Glen Kamara and Ryan Kent cut standard open down the left.
And boss Gerrard was delighted to see Arfield come up with the decisive goal as Rangers progressed with a game to spare this term.
Gerrard said: "We needed to tweak a few things at half-time. We needed to be a little bit more front foot, less passive, more aggressive.
"We managed to turn it around over the course of the 90 minutes. We showed amazing character, amazing bravery, and again I have got nothing but plaudits for my players.
“He (Arfield) in, he’s in. If you play like Scott Arfield and you perform like he does on a daily basis and you put in what Scott puts in you are in the team. Of course you are going to have to look after him at certain times.
"But Scott is in on merit. Don’t let anyone tell you any different. I thought the winning goal summed up how different and how much better we were in the second-half. We asked them to be better on the counter press.
"We regained the ball. It s a lovely little move. The cutback is sensational. He puts it on a plate for Scott.
"All he has got to do is control it not the bottom of the net. Second half we were the better team. Their keep has had to make more saves. We could have won it more comfortable in the end."
