Steven Gerrard has confirmed Ryan Jack will miss tomorrow evening's Betfred Cup clash against St Mirren.

The Rangers midfielder has been out of action since November and, while Gerrard revealed he has not suffered a further setback on his injury, the coaching staff do not want to rush the player back into the fold at risk of aggravating it in future.

It means Jack will sit out in Paisley as Gers look to continue their rich vein of form and make it through to the last-four. Nikola Katic is also unavailable.

Gerrard said: "Still no Ryan Jack, he is moving along but not ready. Everyone else is available except Katic. Ryan hasn't suffered a setback, it won't be too long before he returns but it is important not to rush him."

Alfredo Morelos, meanwhile, has not been firing on all cylinders this season but Gerrard still reserved praise for the Colombian's work ethic. He added: "It is normal for players to have dips in form but we know it is temporary and it won't be long before Alfredo is back scoring goals.

"It is important to note he is still doing a great job for the team. We have been really proud of what he is giving this season to the team."
