FORMER Celtic manager John Barnes believes that James Tavernier could play for the majority of Premier League clubs.

Tavernier has been in excellent form this season, having scored 17 times so far from right-back, which has prompted conversation about the Englishman's future.

And Barnes believes that the Rangers captain could cut it in the Premiership.

“He [James Tavernier] came from a lower division team to go to Rangers when they weren’t the Rangers that they are now. He showed the potential that he had, so Rangers did well in terms of getting him up there for him to show his quality. All he needed was an opportunity, and he didn’t get that in England, so he went to Scotland. He's now showing what he can do.

"I'm not saying that if he comes to England, he's going to be the top scorer. But I'm sure that, given an opportunity, he could play for most Premier League teams. I don't know if he could be at Liverpool, Man United, Arsenal or one of the top teams, but definitely in the Premier League.”
