Steven Naismith has avoided any retrospective punishment after appearing to stand on Celtic captain Scott Brown during Sunday's Scottish Cup final.

The Hearts attacker came together with Brown and caught him with his studs in an off-the-ball incident. However outgoing compliance officer Clare Whyte had until 3pm today to fast-track the issue, but deemed there to be no more in it than referee John Beaton thought at the time.

Former Premier League referee Mark Halsey earlier tipped Naismith to receive a ban and Celtic hero Chris Sutton claimed he should have been sent-off at the time.

Rangers legend Ally McCoist disagreed, however, as the Jambos went on to narrowly lose out in a penalty shootout.

Naismith and Brown locked horns on a number of occasions during the cup final.
