JIM GOODWIN was frustrated two defining moments went against St Mirren as they failed to repeat their shock cup triumph over Rangers on Premiership duty.

The Buddies were 3-2 winners when Steven Gerrard took his side to Paisley earlier this month as they booked their place in the Betfred Cup semi-finals.

But there was no follow up success on a freezing Wednesday afternoon as goals from Kemar Roofe and Alfredo Morelos earned the Light Blues a 13th consecutive league victory.

The strike from Roofe took a deflection as keeper Jak Alnwick was beaten midway through a competitive first half, while Morelos latched onto a loose pass from Joe Shaughnessy before finishing well to make it 2-0 just minutes later.

Goodwin said: "I'm disappointed to lose the game. The first goal I couldn't really point the finger at in terms of blame.

"We spoke about those quality runs that the Rangers players can make, but Conor McCarthy has matched Roofe all the way and got half a block in but unfortunately Jak Alnwick was going the other way and couldn't get to it.

"To lose the second goal in the manner that we did is really disappointing. It's a mistake from the big man and these things happen, but we go again.

"Of course it's frustrating because it's only five minutes or so since we conceded the first goal.

"If you take it back further, we had a great opportunity early on when McGregor spilled the ball and it just wouldn't fall kindly enough for Obika.

"These are the moments in games against Celtic and Rangers. Opportunities are always going to be limited and we do get them.

"You need to be ruthless and clinical and on that occasion we weren't. We found ourselves with a huge mountain to climb when we went 2-0 down."
