NEIL LENNON says that he feels secure in his position as Celtic manager, and that he is as determined as ever to bring success to the club.
Lennon has come in for severe criticism from supporters as a faltering season to date has left them 23 points behind Rangers at the top of the Premiership, and chief executive Peter Lawwell has revealed he is subject to a performance review before the month is out.
But when asked if he felt hung out to dry by the club’s board, Lennon said: “No, absolutely not. I think I’ve had some great support from the board. I can’t control speculation or fake news, fake stories. That’s the way the world is now.
“I’m very comfortable with what I’m doing and I have great support from the board, Peter, and also my backroom team as well. So, no, I don’t feel isolated in any way, shape or form.
“I’m not happy with the way the season’s gone so far but I’m very comfortable with my role and pretty determined we get the best out of the rest of the season.
“I speak to Peter every day. We talk about selling players, we talk about bringing players in and I take the training every day with my players. So my role hasn’t changed one bit.
“I’m as determined as ever. I get the criticism but, again, compared to what other managers are going through, it’s way over the top. I don’t rest on my laurels, we analyse everything and we’re trying to change things as best we can.
“But it’s a results driven business and they’ve not been good this year, so it’s all about trying to keep improving the players and finding a rhythm and momentum to take us through to the end of the season, and then see what the outcome of that is going to be.”
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
