Ally McCoist insists Rangers have been "harshly treated" by Uefa after the club were fined for their conduct during the Europa League clash with Slavia Prague last month.

The Ibrox side were issued with a £7800 fine while Glen Kamara and Kemar Roofe were both issued with match bans.

It comes as Slavia defender Ondrej Kudela was given a 10-game ban for racially abusing Kamara during the Ibrox last 16 clash.

Speaking on talkSPORT McCoist told of his sympathy for Kamara as he fumed that Kudela had been let off lightly.

He explained: "They’ve got a chance of putting Arsenal out tonight. And it would leave a sour taste in a lot of people’s mouths if they went on to win the Europa League, no doubt.

"I feel for Kamara, I really do. We don’t know what Kudela said to him but he was clearly up to something. So we’re a little bit in the dark about the situation.

“But on the ban itself, Kudela has got away with one. Well, not away with it but it’s quite lenient the ban.

“When you consider Kieran Trippier got a 10-week ban for allegedly telling his mates to lump on his move to Atletico.

“Glen is the one you feel sorry for rather than getting angry at UEFA as you’ve come to expect some of these blinking decisions from them as they just don’t get it right.

“On some of the past occasions it could only be described as unbelievably lenient from UEFA.

"I remember some of the abuse that was getting flung about in some of the countries in the former Yugoslavia. That was diabolical.

“I don’t know legally where Kamara stands on it. We all know what Kundela was up to, absolutely. But unless someone hears it…

“But I was delighted with the solidarity the Rangers players showed with Kamara, that was fantastic.”

McCoist added: "The amount of the fine would indicate they’ve not done an awful lot wrong.

"So I think Rangers have been harshly treated. The fine is a token gesture.

“And we don’t know what went on in the tunnel afterwards. You can’t condone the violence if he’s thrown a punch.”
