CONNOR GOLDSON has hailed the inspirational figure of Allan McGregor after he was crowned as the Premiership Player of the Year this term.
The keeper has played an integral role throughout the season for Steven Gerrard's side and his impact on and off the park has been crucial in helping Rangers land a 55th top flight title.
McGregor has seen off competition from several of his Ibrox team-mates to be crowned Player of the Year and now has his sights set on a new shutout record ahead of the game with Aberdeen this afternoon.
Goldson said: "He has already thanked me in there for keeping so many clean sheets. I just said to him: 'No problem...'
"No, seriously, he deserves it. He has saved us so many times and it’s a pleasure to have such a great goalkeeper behind us.
"We have two great goalkeepers because you saw Jon McLaughlin during the week and I think that pushes Greegsy even more every single day.
"He trains like his life depends on it and he is a real inspiration for every single player here.
"At his age, it would be so easy to take his foot of the gas and just wait for games of football.
"But as soon as he walks onto the training pitch he is the same Greegsy you see every game day.
"That’s such a special thing as a footballer and it’s no wonder he’s had the career he’s had and is still doing it to this day.
"The way he works on a day to day basis, I see it. He is always the first person into the gym doing his programme, always one of the best trainers.
"I think he deserves it more than anyone because of the work he puts in."
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
