STEVEN GERRARD urged his players to soak up ‘every single second’ of their Premiership title success after they became invincible champions at Ibrox.
Rangers rounded off an unbeaten league campaign with a 4-0 win over Aberdeen on Saturday as they wrote their name in the record books at the end of a historic season.
This success marks the end of a decade-long wait for the top flight title for Rangers and huge crowds gathered outside Ibrox before, during and after the game to celebrate a sought-after 55th league flag.
Gerrard celebrated his third anniversary in charge at Ibrox earlier this month and the Liverpool legend has hammered home the message to his squad to make sure that they savour these joyous moments as champions of Scotland.
Gerrard said: “It is very different [being a manager compared to a player]. It is a different career for me, a different place, a differ role and responsibility.
“Today was about getting the result done and then just really enjoying the moment and soaking it up.
“James, I know what he has been through, I have lived with him for three years and I have educated myself on previous years before I came in.
“These are good people, these are good lads. Even when we have gone close and had a wobble and a setback, it hasn’t been through a lack of effort.
“There is no ego in the dressing room. Led by him, they are a good group of lads and I am so proud of them. I am delighted for them because I’m not sure they realise how big this is but they will do in time.
“It is only really now that I appreciate what I won as a player. The message to the players talking to them after the game was to reflect, soak it in now and enjoy every single second of it.”
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
