STEPHEN Glass believes new Aberdeen player-coach Scott Brown will need a complete break from football before starting the next chapter of his career at Pittodrie.

Brown brought an end to his 14 year spell at Parkhead on Saturday when he played in his final game against his first club Hibernian at Easter Road.

Glass is hopeful the former Scotland midfielder will be able to start his preparations for the 2021/22 campaign in the middle of next month.

“I think early June is his date for the start of his contract,” he said. “Obviously, I’ll be speaking to him before that anyway.

“He is finishing his stuff with Celtic and he might still have some responsibilities there so he will need a break before a new chapter starting for him. He will be with the group mid-late June Scott will be in with us.”

Former Atalanta United 2 head coach Glass succeeded Derek McInnes as Aberdeen manager last month and has only taken charge of the final six games.

The ex-Newcastle United, Watford and Scotland winger feels that his reign will only really start next term once he has been able to make changes and bring in his own players.

“I’m not making excuses,” he said. “We have been able to work with the group, but not as much as we would like.

“Some managers talk about an amount of transfer windows and all that stuff, I think if we get a good pre-season with the group – and I see no reason why we won’t, because we’ve got control of that now – then you will see how the players will react to that.

“I think that is when the judgement really starts, which I am aware of. We will make the changes that are required.”
