RYAN Kent has vowed that Rangers’ first Scottish title win in 10 years will be the start of an extended spell of domestic dominance for the Ibrox club.
Kent celebrated with his team mates this weekend after the Glasgow giants were presented with the Premiership trophy for the first time since 2011.
The £7m winger was delighted that what he described as a “beautiful struggle” – their bid to topple Celtic as champions - had ended in a historic success.
Steven Gerrard’s side went undefeated in all 38 of their league games to become “Invincibles” - the first time the Govan outfit had achieved the feat in the top flight since way back in 1899.
However, former Liverpool player Kent is keen for Steven Gerrard’s side to build on their triumph and continue to be the eminent force in the country.
"The title means everything,” he said. “Since I joined this club, it's been my dream to lift that trophy.
"It's been a beautiful struggle over the last three years. There have been some incredible moments along the way. To finally lift that trophy means an awful lot.
"This is a special team. You won't come across many teams like this in football where everybody wants the best for everybody.
"We put it to bed early, but we didn't stop there. We went unbeaten and put ourselves in the history books.
Speaking to Rangers TV, Kent added: "The gaffer said a few weeks ago that this is just the start. It's time for Rangers to be dominant again. It's been a long time and this is just the start.
"It's hard to put it into words because there has been a lot of work gone into this over the last three years. It's a very proud year for everybody, especially to come away unbeaten for the whole year. I'm so happy for the fans to finally enjoy this moment again.
"The gaffer implemented a winning mentality at the start of the season and we have delivered. There have been occasions this season when we've not been at our best but still managed to come away with results. It shows the depth in the team and how far we're willing to go."
Kemar Roofe, who scored two goals in the 4-0 triumph over Aberdeen at Ibrox on Saturday, echoed Kent’s remarks and expressed hope the Premiership victory was the beginning of a halcyon era for Rangers.
"To be Invincible was the main thing,” he told Rangers TV. “You can go home and be remembered forever now. Not many people have done it and it's a special day.
"The key has been the togetherness, the commitment, the drive - all of those fancy words - and we've done it. That has been the recipe for our success this season.
"The gaffer says it all the time. It's just the start of the journey. Next season we want more. We want to keep building on it, but, yes, it's a good start.
"We have the group of players, the staff and the board to keep driving. We're not going to stand still and, if we do stand still, it's a negative and there's something wrong. We need to keep going."
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
