SCOTLAND Under-20s forward Harri Morris has been given a three-match ban after being sent off against Ireland. He will miss his team's games in the Under-20s Six Nations against England, Italy and France.
Morris was shown the red card in the first minute of the second half of last week’s 38-7 defeat by the Irish after he took out an opponent in the air. He argued at a hearing yesterday that, while he had committed an act of foul play, it did not merit a sending-off.
However, the disciplinary panel deemed otherwise.
“The Disciplinary Committee found that Mr Morris had committed an act of foul play, that it had warranted a red card, and that the act of foul play warranted a lower-range entry point (four weeks’ suspension),” the tournament organisers announced. “This was reduced by one week to take account of mitigating factors (including his previously clean record, his youth and inexperience, his conduct at the hearing and his spontaneous apology to his opponent).
“Mr Morris is therefore suspended for three weeks and, given his playing schedule, he will miss three Scotland matches in the Six Nations U20 Championship against England, Italy, and France. Mr Morris has a right of appeal.”
Barring the improbable event of a successful appeal, the Edinburgh player will not be able to return to action until Scotland’s last game of the competition, against Wales on 13th July.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
