Celtic target Carl Starfelt was a notable absentee from Rubin Kazan's pre-season training this week.

The Swede is wanted by Ange Postecoglou in a deal which could be worth around £4million to the Russian outfit.

It has been widely reported that Starfelt, a centre-half, is one of the names on the Hoops' transfer shortlist and fuel has now been poured onto the fire with the player missing training.

Sharing a photo on social media confirming his absence, Russian Football News wrote: "Rubin Kazan back in training after two days off with one notable absentee - Carl Starfelt.

"Celtic move perhaps edging closer."

Celts need a new central defender with Kris Ajer on the way out after expressing his desire to leave the club earlier this summer.

Christopher Jullien is still not back from a long-term knee injury while Stephen Welsh is somewhat inexperienced as a first-choice.
