Kyogo Furuhashi says his eyes are focused fully on banging in the goals for Celtic despite being brought to the club as a wide man.

Ange Postecoglou, the Hoops manager, signed the Vissel Kobe attacker with the idea in mind to have the 26-year-old playing on the left-hand side of a front three.

Celts, in fairness, have been in need of a strong playmaker on that side with Mikey Johnston injury prone and Ryan Christie not necessarily a natural on the wing. But Furuhashi believes his strong suit is scoring goals which he proved in Japan, netting 15 goals in 22 games before he left for Parkhead.

"The manager created a very interesting style of football with Marinos and of course he won the league," he said. "It was always a tough club to play against. I’m just excited I’m in his team and I get to be part of his style.

"He brought me over here and he believes I can be part of it. The manager has brought me here to play in the wide areas but I am always thinking about scoring goals. The fans can expect me to run, run run, to create opportunities.

"I also want to score and become a big name here at Celtic."

The Premiership is Celtic's bread and butter this season after falling to FC Midtjylland in the Champions League qualifying at the first hurdle.

Of course they still have Europa League qualifiers to come against Jablonec and then, potentially, AZ Alkmaar. And Furuhashi hopes to take the experience he has playing for Kobe in the Asian Champions League and use it to his advantage with Celtic.

He added: "It was tough for me individually playing in the Asia Champions League and I needed to overcome a lot of tasks.

"We had a successful run in the competition (to the semi-finals) and now we have a chance to play in the Europa League, I think my experience will help me."
