STEVE CLARKE has named his Scotland squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

We have Israel and the Faroe Islands in two crucial ties in October.

It comes just one month after the Scots revived their bid to qualify for Qatar with wins over Moldova and Austria, after defeat to runaway group leaders Denmark.

And there are a few surprised in the 24-player pool.

Clarke has banked on the fitness of Celtic skipper Callum McGregor - despite the midfielder missing each of the Hoops' last four games.

Scott McTominay returns from injury having missed the last camp, staying at Manchester United for treatment.

There is disappointment for St Johnstone stopper Zander Clark though, as he loses his place to Jon McLaughlin - with Motherwell's Liam Kelly the preferred final option between the sticks.

Loyalty is one of Clarke's biggest management attributes, so there are unsurprisingly places for Stephen O'Donnell and Stuart Armstrong among others.

The crunch match against Israel takes place on Saturday, October 9 at Hampden.

The trip to the Faroes follows on Tuesday, October 12.

Squad in full: Craig Gordon, Liam Kelly, Jon McLaughlin, Liam Cooper, Grant Hanley, Jack Hendry, Scott McKenna, Stephen O'Donnell, Nathan Patterson, Andy Robertson, Kieran Tierney, Stuart Armstrong, Lewis Ferguson, Billy Gilmour, John McGinn, Callum McGregor, Kenny McLean, Scott McTominay, David Turnbull, Che Adams, Ryan Christie, Lyndon Dykes, Ryan Fraser, Kevin Nisbet.
