JOHN LUNDSTRAM believes victory over Hibernian was a statement of intent from Rangers as he backed the champions to move through the gears sooner rather than later.
Steven Gerrard's side consolidated their place at the top of the Premiership with a comeback win on Sunday thanks to second half headers from Kemar Roofe and Alfredo Morelos.
Rangers have come in for criticism for the lacklustre level of their performances in recent weeks and went into the Ibrox clash on the back of a second consecutive Europa League defeat.
Gerrard was enthusiastic about their showing against Hibernian, though, and Lundstram reckons there is plenty more to come after Rangers got the rewards that their efforts merited.
Lundstram said: "It is a big statement that. I think second half we were brilliant and we could have got a couple more if we were a bit more composed at times.
"It is a good statement of intent, it puts us back top. We need to build on that.
"I think everyone can see there is more to come. We have been getting results in the league, obviously not against Motherwell at home, but it is still a little bit that is not quite clicking at times.
"I think at times [on Sunday] it did click, you could see it click and it was nice to watch with good football and we could have opened them up more.
"I think everyone can see there is more to come from and once we do find that groove we will be a powerful team.
"It is a positive that we are getting results. We are our biggest critics in the dressing room.
"Sometimes we have won games and we know it can be better. It is a positive when you think you can do better when we have won a game.
"We are striving to be better and that is the mentality of the manager and mentality of the staff."
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
