ALMOST one third of Saturday’s scheduled 4th Round fixtures fell victim to the horrendous weather that recently hit so many parts of the country. Those matches will try again next week.

The games that did go ahead did not disappoint.

The result of the round was Central Scottish side, Westpark United winning 3-1 win away to previously undefeated Cup Hearts from the Kingdom of Fife AFL. Far travelled Cowie Thistle from Aberdeenshire recorded an impressive 4-2 win against Newshot of the Greater Glasgow Premier League.

Thorn Athletic (Caledonian League) progressed at the expense of Edinburgh’s Meadowbank via the dreaded penalty shoot-out. Locked at 1-1 after 90 minutes, Thorn held their nerve to grab a thrilling 5-4 win.

It was another good day for the Amateur game’s ‘big-hitters’. The Central Scottish AFL enjoyed a particularly successful day. Apart from Westpark United’s notable victory at Cupar, the majority of CSAFL sides swept past their opposition to ensure their League will feature strongly in the 5th Round draw.

A clutch of previous winners all advanced and will be quietly dreaming of repeat glory.

In winning 9-0 against Stoneywood Parkvale, Harestanes recorded the day’s biggest win. St Patrick’s FP (6-1 v Kilsyth), Drumchapel (8-1 v Garrowhill Thistle), Wishaw HSFP (4-0 v Glenburn Miners Welfare) and Shortlees (2-0 v Eaglesham) all won. Another previous winner, Dumbarton Academy FP progressed without kicking a ball when their scheduled opponents were unable to field a team.

Of the other games played the most eye-catching wins were for Eastfield (3-2 v Leith Athletic), Fallin (3-0 v Alva), Castlemilk Dynamo (3-2 v Bridge of Earn), Lesmahagow (6-1 v East Dunbartonshire), New Farm Loch (3-1 v South Lochaber Thistle) and Maryhill Thistle (5-1 versus Kettins).
