CELTIC are keeping an eye on Barnsley midfielder Callum Styles ahead of the transfer window reopening next month, according to reports.
Manager Ange Postecoglou has already outlined his desire to strengthen his squad once the market is open and the Greece-born Australian's resolve will have only been reinforced in recent weeks as his players have picked up injuries.
The former Yokohama F. Marinos boss is expected to raid Japan in January and Celtic have been heavily linked with moves for forward Daizen Maeda, utility man Reo Hatate and midfielder Yosuke Ideguchi.
However, the Scottish Sun are reporting that Postecoglou is also looking south of the border for new recruits as he weighs up a move for Styles.
The 21-year-old came through the ranks at Bury before sealing a move to Barnsley in 2018, where he has racked up over 70 first-team appearances.
Styles has featured mainly in midfield for the English Championship club but has also been deployed as a left winger and a left wing-back on occasion during his time at Oakwell.
Postecoglou has been 'checking' on Styles, according to the Sun, and the Celtic boss could make his move for the Englishman in the January window with the Tykes embroiled in a relegation dogfight.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
